Where and How To Reach Barsu
Early morning take the scenic mountainous drive to Barsu via Uttarkashi. It takes about 8 hours to reach.

Once you reach, you will be greeted with one of our staff. Team introduction happens over a cup of coffee and snacks and with that, we will also share few details on the trek. We will issue the personal equipment to you to be used on the trek and returned at the end.

A hot tasty dinner and then our bed calls us. Tomorrow we will start our trek, and we need good rest today, specially for ouyr spinning head after the long drive.

Today, we are on the 5th day on our Dayara Bugyal trek. We trek upto the Sirya top and traverse the ridge to get to the meadow on the other side of Dayara Bugyal. The trek is a exciting and beautiful one with a mix of forest and meadow with several openings.

Dayara Bugyal Trek - An Elaborate Description

Bugyals or meadows are one of the most beautiful element of the Himalayas, which adds to its unique beauty and takes away the heart of many Himalayan trekkers. The never-ending carpet of lush green, soft grasses shining bright with the sun rays are a beauty to watch. Where there are meadows, there are shepherds and their flock of sheep grazing on their cherished grasses, while in the backdrop, high snow covered peaks of the Himalayas rise tall. Oh yes, not to forget the small water bodies reflecting the surrounding beauty is just another reason to celebrate a Himalayan Meadow. Its probably one of the most coveted frame of any photographer, or for that matter any trekker wandering in the high altitude region of the Himalayas, seeking to get High with its aura.

Dayara bugyal is one such rare beauty in the Himalayas of Garhwal near to the hub of Uttarkashi. Its a wide lush green meadow with several humps surrounded by snow clad peaks of Banderpoonch, Kalanag and other peaks of Gangotri range. Its an all season trek, and in each season this trek is a beauty. The winter pours down heavy snowfall and puts a thick cover of snow on the Dayara bugyal, making it a snow ski destination. That makes Dayara bugyal not just a trekker's delight, but also skiers. Dayara bugyal is also a super snow trek. When the blanket of snow takes off the surface slowly, the moist meadow of Dayara makes a good ground for colourful flowers to bloom on it making Dayara a beautiful colourful meadow. The monsoon rains further sharpens the green hue of the grasses and the cycle repeats throughout the year making Dayara bugyal a very picturesque trek in the Garhwal Himalayas.

The trek starts from Barsu, a small settlement about 40 kilometers away from the hub of Uttarkashi, which is a junction for many trekkers and mountaineers seeking the adrenaline of climbing high Himalayan peaks. The route follows up the expanse of the meadow straight away passing by the water body of Barnala Lake. Hovered over by the peaks of Banderpoonch, Kalanag, Swargarohini and other peaks of Gangotri region namely Srikhand and Draupadi ka Danda, this treks starts to amaze you right away. The route climbs up to the Dayara Bugyal the next day taking you to one of the most beautiful meadows in the Himalayas of Uttrakhand. Rest of the days are used to explore the region as a bugyal has many humps and the Dayara bugyal too has many bugyal tops offering vast views of the bugyal and the high peaks. The major ones are named.

Dayara Bugyal Trek - Why Its A Must-Do

How We Grade Our Treks and Expeditions

Easy

Usual daily walks of 4 - 5 hours in altitude below 4000 meters. The sleeping altitude on these treks are below 4000 meter and the trails are gradual involving no steep ascent or descent. Sometimes, the trail may be longer, but on level trails. The duration of trek may be a week or lesser than it. The trek is not too remote and evacuation might be possible from almost any point of the trek

Moderate

The trek duration each day may span from 4 - 5 hours, but on some days, it may push up to 8 - 9 days. The trail might involve steep ascents or descents on occasions This kind of treks demand good fitness, and trekkers must involve themselves in cardio exercises regularly to do these treks comfortably. Sleeping altitude are below 4000 meters or little above it, but the trail might go as high as 4500 - 5000 meters. The trek is bit remote and evacuation might be possible from almost all, but not all campsites

Moderate +

This type of treks are bit more demanding than the moderate ones. It might involve few days of very long walks at higher altitude, or serious gradients, exposures, more remote or involves sleeping at higher altitudes for more days.

Strenuous

The trek duration each day may span from 5 - 8 hours, and may go up to to 8 - 9 on few days. The trail involves steep ascents and descents. Good fitness are demand of these treks, and trekkers must involve themselves in cardio exercises regularly to do these treks comfortably. Sleeping altitude may go above 4000 meters or little above it on couple of days, but not more than that. The trail might go as high as 4500 - 5200 meters. These trek are remote and evacuation might not be possible from all the campsites

Challenging

The trek duration each day may span from 5 - 8 hours, and may go up to to 8 - 9 or even more than that on few days. The trail involves steep ascents and descents. Crossing a glacier or a scree zone might be a feature of these treks. You might on some occasions, require technical equipment like rope, ice axe and snow stacks etc to complete these treks. Good fitness are demand of any treks, but these treks demands strong character. Sleeping altitude may goes well above 5000 meters on some days. The trail might go as high as 5000 - 6000 meters. These trek are high or remote or both. The trek usually might be a week long.

Sometimes irrespective of altitude and distance, a trek may ge graded Challenging if the route is treacherous, which might demand some footing skills or assistance of ropes and other equipment
