Bugyals or meadows are one of the most beautiful element of the Himalayas, which adds to its unique beauty and takes away the heart of many Himalayan trekkers. The never-ending carpet of lush green, soft grasses shining bright with the sun rays are a beauty to watch. Where there are meadows, there are shepherds and their flock of sheep grazing on their cherished grasses, while in the backdrop, high snow covered peaks of the Himalayas rise tall. Oh yes, not to forget the small water bodies reflecting the surrounding beauty is just another reason to celebrate a Himalayan Meadow. Its probably one of the most coveted frame of any photographer, or for that matter any trekker wandering in the high altitude region of the Himalayas, seeking to get High with its aura.
Dayara bugyal is one such rare beauty in the Himalayas of Garhwal near to the hub of Uttarkashi. Its a wide lush green meadow with several humps surrounded by snow clad peaks of Banderpoonch, Kalanag and other peaks of Gangotri range. Its an all season trek, and in each season this trek is a beauty. The winter pours down heavy snowfall and puts a thick cover of snow on the Dayara bugyal, making it a snow ski destination. That makes Dayara bugyal not just a trekker's delight, but also skiers. Dayara bugyal is also a super snow trek. When the blanket of snow takes off the surface slowly, the moist meadow of Dayara makes a good ground for colourful flowers to bloom on it making Dayara a beautiful colourful meadow. The monsoon rains further sharpens the green hue of the grasses and the cycle repeats throughout the year making Dayara bugyal a very picturesque trek in the Garhwal Himalayas.
The trek starts from Barsu, a small settlement about 40 kilometers away from the hub of Uttarkashi, which is a junction for many trekkers and mountaineers seeking the adrenaline of climbing high Himalayan peaks. The route follows up the expanse of the meadow straight away passing by the water body of Barnala Lake. Hovered over by the peaks of Banderpoonch, Kalanag, Swargarohini and other peaks of Gangotri region namely Srikhand and Draupadi ka Danda, this treks starts to amaze you right away. The route climbs up to the Dayara Bugyal the next day taking you to one of the most beautiful meadows in the Himalayas of Uttrakhand. Rest of the days are used to explore the region as a bugyal has many humps and the Dayara bugyal too has many bugyal tops offering vast views of the bugyal and the high peaks.
