Region: Kumaon, Uttrakhand, India
As per news information sourced from http://www.dainikuttarakhand.com , flights services are to be started to Pithoragarh from April 1st, 2016.
As per the news reported, a 21 seater Air India flight will board passengers form Delhi and take 1 stop at the currently operational Pantnagar airport to take the passengers to the Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh. As the result of the same, the Tourism Department and Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nagam (KMVN) is expecting an increase in the tourist inflow and reduction in road traffic. Kumaon sees a lot of tourist inflow during the tourist season and the start of the air service will help the tourist in reducing the number of days and also stay away from the mountainous roads of the state.
The news report also states that the State Administration has cleared all the NOCs required to initiate the flight services. The Managing Director of KMVN, Mr. Dhiraj S. Garbyal has stated that all the required NOCs has been received and the Civil Aviation Department has also given its nod to start the flight form April 1st, 2016. He further has stated that initially the flight service will be thrice in a week and afterwards it will be increased as per the tourist inflow and demand. He further added that service arrangements will made to run throughout the year. If there is an increase in the use of flight service, then the flight will also connect Dehradoon and will land in Dehradoon on its first stop before landing in Pantnagar and then on Naini Saini airport in Pithoragarh. Renovation work has been started for Pithoragarh's Naini Saini runway
