Dzongri La Trek - - Why Its A Must-Do

  • Goechala is a premier trek offering up-close views of the mighty Kanchenjunga which is the 3rd highest mountain in the World. The vast mountain massif of Kanchenjunga stands tall and forms a natural border between Sikkim and Nepal. It is not just a mountain for the region. It is worshipped like a God on both sides of the border and is believed to protect the region by the local sentiments. It parents almost 16 other mountains and the mere sight of it from the Dzongri Top or the Goechala top will blow off your mind with its aura.
  • The view that the Goechala trek offers is one of the rarest and most beautiful in all Himalayan treks. Some of the most elegant looking mountains are visible from the top of Dzongri and Goecha La. The wide panorama extends from Black Kabru which is one of the holiest peaks for the locals and extends to the peaks of Bhutan as we spin our head towards the west. Mt. Jupono, Tenchenkhang, Pandim, Simvo, Goecha Peak, Forked Peak, Kanchenjunga, Kumbhakarna, Rathong, Koktang, South Kabru, North Kabru dominates the view with their divine aura.
  • In the months of February, March and April, the trek is beautified by the bloom and fragrance of fresh rhododendrons and magnolias. As we trek through some of the densest forests in the Himalayas, crossing the gushing tributaries of the mighty Teesta river, the colours and fragrance of its rich flora take away all the pain of our steep ascends and descends. You also need to be cautious of wild junipers as their sweet smell can be intoxicating.
  • The dense forest cover of the Kanchenjunga National Park is home to many wildlife species and is an abode for bird watchers. The rare Red Pandas can be seen biting on the tall bamboo trees if you are lucky and are in a smaller and quiet trekking group.
  • When we talk about the Goechala trek, we cannot miss the mystic Samiti Lake which is one of the most serene lakes I have ever witnessed. Altogether, a different and divine energy works around it. Also, beneath the Goechala, there is a small and lovely turquoise colour lake that appears like a tear drop. The mere sight of this lake will take you out of this World.
  • While we talk about the Goechala Trek, we should not miss the glory of the sunrise and sunset this trek has to offer from the top of Dzongri and Goechala. It's simply the best magic of Mother Nature that you can witness.
  • On this trek, you will be welcomed by the unmatched hospitality of the Subba and Limboo culture. This will allow for a great platform for the exchange of knowledge and make your trek worthy.

Dzongri La Trek Frequently Asked Questions

+

How Is The Dzongri La Weather And Temperature In Springs?

This is perhaps the best time to do the Dzongrti La trek. As the receding winter makes way for bearable and comfortable weather, it also provides suitable grassland for new life to blossom. Myriads of Colourful flowers bloom during this time. While the land is beautified by an array of tiny colourful flowers, the rhododendrons and magnolias dominate the forest cover hovered over by blue sky. The month of February, March and April definitely add up to all the beautiful things the Dzongri La trek has to offer and makes it one of the best time to do this trek.

+

How Is The Dzongri La Weather And Temperature In Autumn?

While the Spring season makes it one of the best times to do this trek because of flower blossoms, the autumn season has its own pros. These are the months when the weather is stable and offers unobstructed views of the grand mountains that are visible on this trek. The green grasses slowly turn brown as the weather starts to get drier and colder. With each passing month, it gets colder and colder and by the time it's the end of December, winter finally sets in. The months of October, November and Early December makes one of the best time to do this trek.

+

How Is The Dzongri La Weather And Temperature In Winters?

Many will say that this trek cant be done in the winters but we say, yes it can be done. Just that it will be much colder and drier. Fresh snowfall might make things a little difficult, but not so much as to block the trek route making it difficult to walk. Yaks are honed naturally to bear such weather, unlike horses. The primary benefit of doing this trek in the winter is that the route will be absolutely crowd-less making it an excellent opportunity to witness wildlife from close quarters and offcourse offer a challenging weather to overcome.

INTERNATIONAL GUESTS: Trek cost for foreigners is slightly higher than the cost for our Indian guests, mainly due to the higher permit fee applicable for admission to National Parks or protected forest areas.
